Modern Apprenticeships
There has never been a better time to think about a career in early years education, childcare and playwork. With a clear career pathway from Skillseeker right up to degree level there are career opportunities for everyone and routes into other professions such as teaching and social work. The new Childhood Practice Career Pathway Toolkit will help you plan your personal career route.
Modern Apprenticeships in child care offers young people the opportunity to be employed full time whilst undertaking a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) level 2 & 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (CCLD) or Playwork.
No experience is necessary as HiMATS will work closely with your employer and your nominated work-place ‘buddy’ to ensure you have the support and training required to progress through your qualification.
If you are not already employed we may be able to help you find employment in order for you to start your training.
To be accepted on the Modern Apprentice programme you will have satisfied your employer’s requirements first and foremost and in addition you should have, or feel confident that you have the ability to gain Core Skills at SCQF level 5. www.SQA.org.uk/files_ccc/readyreckoner.html
In addition to the on-site training and support you will be expected to attend a identified training courses for example the Play and Learning into Practice or Play into Practice Foundation courses and HiMATS Modern Apprentice Forums.
To be a Modern Apprentice and receive funded training you must be between 16-19 years old.
